On the last photograph just infront of the air conditioning intake can be seen some ripple marks. They are on the lower starboard side of the fuselage just below the engine intake. Also there is a small dent in the outer lower edge of the intake as well cry

Anyway, I think we ought to put a bounty on photos of both the Errol, Scotland, XN981 fuselage and the reported sightings of XK527's cockpit in North Wales grin

The previous owner of XK527 has got a photograph up for sale on ebay at the moment. I did ask if he knew where it is now, he doesn't, pity.

Found XX892, formerly of Christies Garden Centre, Forres.

Had a phone call from James England of Blue Sky Experiences in Perth, Scotland, confirming that XX892 was used in the "Ulitmate Puzzle Zone", not paintballing, as originally thought.

Sorry for the poor quality of the image, but if you make contact with James at Blue Sky Experiences, he may allow you access to photo the section.

Quite correct Timbo, that is the infamous Short SC.9, last time I saw that, was in scrapyard in Cornwall/Devon!! about 10 years ago.

Nice to see XW541 having some attention spent on her. She looks a hell of a lot better for it!

Some South African Buccaneers

All taken in the JoBerg area last week.

422 at the National Museum of Military History, near the city centre: ( Chris Wood)

414 at the Air Force Museum at Swartkop: ( Chris Wood)

421 also at Swartkop, in need of some TLC! ( Chris Wood)

There is another one (412) on a pole just inside one of the gates at Waterkloof. It is visible from outside but is not easy to photograph.

Many thanks for allowing the use of your photographs Chris!

Of note in the above photograph of 414 is the size of the slipper fuel tanks fitted to the Smk50. These were much larger than those fitted on their UK counterparts!

Also, the reason 421 looks so rough is because she was a victim of a violent storm that ripped through the area a while back. Although it cant be seen in this view, I have seen another photograph that shows the starboard nacelle and engine covers are all missing. Whether this is as a result of the storm is uncertain.

There's lots of good information about the South African Air Force here: www.saairforce.co.za
