« Thread started on: Jul 12th, 2006, 8:33pm »

Some amazingly quick responses to my email regarding images of Bucc's whilst still in service, so to start off with this thread, we go back to the days of the Royal Navy and I must, once again, extend my greatest thanks to Robin Harper for allowing us to use these images.

Enjoy

Next batch of 4 come from Iain Clark, many thanks Iain, these were taken within 237OCU's shed, a sight not many of us would have seen.

Now here's a poser for you, these two images were sent into me by Matt Willis, who is part of the Buccaneer Engineering and Support Team who look after XX897 at Bournemouth.

Can you guess, Where, When and Why? Sorry about the quality, but I believe them to be quite unique.

Society member, Tony Doyle, has sent us this excellent image of Ark Royal with a complement of Bucc's Phantoms (FAA & USN), A-6 and Gannet on the deck.

Its interesting to note the size difference of the engine fairings between the Spey powered FAA Phantoms and the J-79 Powered USN Phantom.

Enjoy and thanks very much Tony.

I must thank Paul Jackson for the following images of A&AEE & RAE Bucc's, they were all taken whilst the subject aircraft was still active.

XW987 on static 1988 (not sure that is correct as I think that tail was renewed somewhen around 1990/91).

Enjoy.

Hello folks, new to the site but have always held the Bucc in high esteem. WRT the poser regarding the images sent in by Matt Willis. Believe this to be RAF Lossiemouth although may well have been RNAS Lossiemouth when the pics were taken. Spent six years (81-87) watching these aircraft taking off and landing on RWY 23 from the windows of GRSF. Mostly 12 Sqdn but later 208 Sqdn & 237 OCU.

Hi Fin,

Welcome to the Societies Forum.

Yes, it is indeed Lossie, Matt did tell me what the numbers were for but the grey matter is not what it used to be, and I have managed to totally forget.

Do you have any photos from your time on the Squadrons? We would be more than pleased to see them.

All the best.
