Although there doesn’t appear to be much happening with 894 at the moment, this could not be further from the truth.
Since my last update fuel tanks 2,3 & 4 have all been open up, dried out and thoroughly cleaned. The were treated with PRC (Sealing compound) and the hatches re-sealed. Some new fuel pipe work has been installed and leak testing was virtually completed yesterday. Weather permitting engine runs will commence in anger from next weekend onwards, although the team already know that we have a small, yet irritating issue with the port engine to fix.

Some recent photos…

I know a jubilee clip, some length of hose and a big tank don’t look very sophisticated, but they do the job just fine cheesy

Thanks for all the kind comments guys cheesy

XX894 was towed out on Saturday to begin engine runs using the newly installed fuel system. After a little bit of time and effort the starboard engine roared into life for an approximate fifteen minute run. All hydraulic services, electrics and boundary layer blow valves were tested successfully during the run and the engine was taken up to 75% HP RPM.
The port engine refused to light correctly and upon examination was found to have a slightly high primary burner rail pressure cry. Unfortunately some rectification work will be required over the next visit or two to resolve the problem. Not to worry though, it is fixable and the team have faced far worse problems in the past!

A few pictures from the day itself…

I will hopefully post some photos taken during the run when/if they get supplied to me!

Thanks for the kind comments.
Its a lot of cold, hard, and often frustrating work all rolled into one. But when you hear and see 894 roar into life, the sense of satisfaction and achievement is immense!
Oh, and its great fun as well grin

Not too much to report from this weekends visit I’m afraid. Testing still continues at pace to resolve the port engine issues. We know where the problem lies and are confident that we can fix it without having to remove the engine again, but we should definitely know the answer either way in two weeks time (weather permitting).

On a more possitive note, the starboard engine was run up to 70% with the electrics, hydraulics and blow system all working fine. Just as soon as we fix the port engine, work will once again turn to the braking system and then back to taxiing tests again. The ultimate aim is to have 894 taxiing in front of the crowds during the types 50th anniversary year! (this year) shocked shocked

From yesterday…

Work continues on 894’s port engine although progress is painfully slow. The first six out of ten fuel jets has now been changed and we ran some tests to see if we have isolated the faulty one(s). At first this does not seem to be the case which means that the other four jets will need changing to get a result. The problem with the remaining four jets is that they are located on the fuselage side of the engine and therefore the engine will have to be removed yet again for the change to be carried out!
There will be more testing done before we know the out come…

Unfortunately the port engine cannot be repaired in situ and the team have now had to face up to the fact that it will have to be removed (again) for the rectification work to be carried out.
All the ancillary equipment was disconnected last weekend and the engine is now simply hanging by its two top bolts and the main trunion. Weather permitting the engine will be removed, repaired and replaced during the 3rd and 4th of May. Engine runs will recommence immediately upon completion of the works providing there are no post refit snags.
I will of course provide a full photo/video report of the forth coming events!
