Nice to see there's a snese of humour when nattering about the 'old girls' at the airfield, we could have nearly chatted for hours, but we're not that old yet

Anyway thanks to Struc Bat Cottesmore we now have replacement attachments for the main generator when it's back from overhaul photo to follow

And the ground crew t-shirts are in production obviously DT will be getting XXL due to the queen feeding him too much

Hi Guys,
May not be of much help, but practised loading bombs etc. during TradeTraining, on Sea Vixens, at RAF HALTON. (YES Halton had a few back in 1977).

Basically, the bomb had a single suspension point, in the shape of a cast ball shape that screwed into the centre socket. This then fitted into a single point EJECTOR UNIT, mounted within the pylon.

Using a speedy brace, the E.R.U (ejector Realease Unit) was retracted into the pylon, clamping the bomb suspension ball inside its jaws.

Hopefully some ex-Navy Armourer can confirm this method, as the Instructers at Halton, in 1977, weren't terribly sure if we were doing it right.

The ERU was the same type as used on the Mk.1 Buccaneer, and the Mk.2/2A Buccs with the oval shaped pylons.

Hope this is of some help.

Bruce

just a quick update for you guys, matt usually does it but he is somewhere in france atm.i have now near enough fully stripped the main genarator and have cleaned and painted the rotor and have serviced and greased the brush assembly,i will turn my attention to the main casing next.on another good note steve found a burnt out connection on the inverter starter we removed from the plane and it now has been repaired and works fine.that hopefully will allow 1 inverter to be run up to full power now.plus we have some good ideas about the fault with the other to check out.steve p and colin went last weekend and i'm trying to get hold of him to find out how they got on,lost the number.ring me please guys!hopefully we are making progress to make her run as well as look nice, hopefully another mate based at odiham has offered to help on the engine side so we are getting there.thats all for now, chris.

sorry to hijack this thread
steve can you send me an e-mail with you and your dad's contact numbers in as i've mislaid my mobile

need to speak to you about these dates, that my brother mentioned in conjunction with guy's bucc

June working days i can't make as the wife has to work the remaining weekends in the month to make up for going away, the only thing i can do is pop in to the airfield quickly maybe if you need any advice, you might have to see if malcolm or francis could make the neccesary 'adjustment' to the nose ground lock

well after a some good weather for a change we managed to remove the navigators ejector seat to refurb it and attach the rail correctly, this also gives us much more access to some electrical stuff that needs looking at.also it could do with a good clean in there as it is a bit tired.dt came down to gives us all a hand and to provide us with much needed advice and help.sadly the inverters still refuse to play ball even after refitted the repaired starter units.guess we will have to look elsewhere.as with the engine problem this is holding us back alot and is very frustrating.if anyone else has any leads on similar problems please god help us out as i'm running out of things to check.as the repaint is coming to an end nearly its time to get back to making things work again.so hopefully people can see something other than a cosmetic change in the old girl.thats all for now.p.s the forum seems to be very quiet lately nobody retoring anything i take it.

Sorry to hear the inverter problems continue. The repaint is coming along great and the pics on the internet of the Navy Bucc and Sea Vixen look awesome! Any chance of swapping the inverters with another static Sea Vixen?
