The door hinge brakets are replaceable so the door panel is salvageable, but yes the hinge other end apparently needs the leg taking off bummer, i'll have a better look on wednesday when i'm down (day off work)

on a positive note i should get the access door "mini" project back from paint, just about 80 odd rivets and it'll be back together

A new update from Matt…

Re-painting of various things has been carried out with the second Stad to have a coat in the New Year. It's currently drying out before we sand it down and give it a coat of NATO Green to last outdoors. The Stad here was recently purchased is having its missing pipes fabricated so it can run as well.

There is a picture of the work to do white board. So far it's quite long and time consuming
but in the main the nose leg has to come off to finally get the nose leg shock overhauled and the task of refitting the various repaired control cable and putting the brake master control valve continues so far 4 out of 15 pipes back on also the new windscreen frame we aren't sure how we'll tackle this either trying to get the old glass out, changing the whole thing or using this as a template for new pieces if we can't get hold of new ones

In the hangar…

The nose leg has now been removed and is waiting to go to Bournemouth for overhaul and seal replacement…

User Image

User Image

There has been more repainting going on. I took this one this morning…

User Image

And this one this evening…

User Image

The majority of the airframe has now had a coat including the top of the tail surface area…

User Image

Canopy on the bench…Both Ejection seats have also been removed.

User Image

Not only is the Sea Vixen getting some TLC but Dave’s tug now sports working front and rear lights as well as reversing lights! Towing aircraft after dark is just not going to be the same anymore!

Various welding and rub down jobs are also being done prior to a repaint.

Looking good fellers cool

things have progressed

nose leg is back on and first coat of paint applied
radio system has been configured and is due in soon
AC electrics appear to be back on line
the repaint is almost complete
both undersides of the wings have been done also
the repairs to the inner flaps are 50% complete

most of the corrosion issues have been addressed

the avon reconnection continues but we appear to have a ignitor lead shortage, in all the chaos not surprised

and on the stores front apart from the external tanks we might have optained some dummy weaponary

we'll be out by the end of the month so there will probably be a slight reduction in the amount of work carried out, but hopefully concentration on the hydraulic functions and getting the engines up to speed

Apologies as I have not updated this thread for a while

In Matt’s words from March…

Work started on the flap damage on Friday and over the weekend to patch repair the damage caused during transit many years ago, it's been bugging me for over 4 years

The starboard damage was quite extensive and entailed a repair patch about a foot and a half in length by 4 to 5 inches both sides and also un bending the L section trailing edge insert, this was duly achieved (not up to structures bay standard but, better than before)

the port side damage was cut out and awaits replacement panels to be fabricated

I’m amazed considering the lack of proper tooling we got as far as we did, I forgot that cherry rivets don't like being pulled with a set of pop rivet pliers

The wings are down came down a treat apparently however the cables need tweaking as there is a bit of play in them...

From April…

Only a few things carried out last visit although there's work proceeding apace when I’m not there we are lucky to have recruited other potential helpers, and therefore we should progress in leaps and bounds main thing was to get the aileron on which had been completed last Sunday

There's more paint on the way to touch this up and then get all the lighting electrics complete to that end we've changed the opaque lenses in the tip for some NOS we had in stock, we already have the trailing edge lenses due to a visit to an aeroboot at Newark 2 years ago when i spotted them however I’m short of a aileron light (green) as we can't find it yet, it was one of the first things we fixed 3 years ago and we have lost it amongst all the spares holdings

We also applied some more markings.
