This thread is dedicated to our friends at Gatwick Aviation Museum and will follow the restoration of the world's only ground runnable S.1 Buccaneer, XN923.

To start off, Milton Roach sent me this image of 923's new canopy, which was sourced via the BBS and is in much, much better condition than the original one it replaced.

Hi folks, following on from Nigels post (thanks Nige), thanks to BBS for helpng us find a new canopy, it is way way better than the old canopy, theres a picture of the old one on the photographs board, to see how bad it was. We are planning a lot of work on 923 this year, to generally correct some of the problems she has. Included will be a full systems inpspection, and a possibly port engine change.we haven't been able to devote much time to her for the last 18months, apart from anti dets, due to ridiculous work loads and little manpower, but that has changed this year. One issue we have is with the cockpt fit. We have a few instruments missing front and back, but being a trials aircraft, little is standard on her. So if anyone has some pictures of 923's cockpit instrumentation, whilst in service, that would help us try and locate the correct fit. anyway, will post progress here from time to time.

Hi guys, thanks for the pics Hugh, thats great, will really help us out. we seem to be missing the scope and the joystick thingy from what I can see. The rest is there. your cockpit lucks really fresh! ours looks a little sun faded smiley. I'll take some pics of 923's cockpit on the weekend and post. In the front, we are basically missing the ILS indicator on the top coaming, and 3 standby insts on the starboard EGT panel. trouble is they are all the small type of instruments.

Thanks Dum swede (why does that feel like I have just insulted you?) ha ha. It will look even better once its been painted too.

how do you post piccies on here then?

Thanks for setting this topic up for us guys. Here are a few pics from the day we swaped 923's canopy as you can see a marked improvement. Hopefully this year she will recieve the attention she deserves. Work has been on going since late last year on corrosion treatment and tidying up the gear bays.

pretty awful eh!. t had reallly got a whole lot worse in the last year or so.The s1 canopy is not UV resistant. our priorty was to get that done above all else, since no matter what we do with her, the canopy made her look awful. We are hoping to replace the entire front screen assembly and frames sometime this year too.

Can the front screens not be polished up at all as they don't appear to be in as bad a shape as the canopy

Not really, we have tried that, it does improve the screens a bit, but they go bad again within a month, since the plastic has milked right through, they are too far gone. The frame needs removing anyway, as there is corrosion trapped underneath, which has already cracked one screen from tension.

Due to the impending restoration of 923, I have decided to add the worlds only runnable S.1 to the main page on the website.

This should be available by the end of the weekend.

If anyone else wishes to add there restoration to the main page, then all I ask is a 10 donation which goes towards to the increase in web space and server upgrades.
This is paid yearly from the point that we first registered your donation.

Many thanks.

yeah shes very solid all round actually. there is corrosion n the mag spine panels (they are mag on the s1) and some on the jet pipe nacelles which are also mag on the s1, but otherwise, bar a few rusty screws ,warn out decals and pant, shes good. internally shes mint, the bomb bay and rear equipment bays are like new. all these little issues will get sorted this year. we are busy repainting and servicing XS587 vixen at the moment, but once finished 923 will get pounced on laugh
