Dear all,

I am Henk, the new owner of XX893. Today I made a picture of the data plate.
It is showing the number B3-1-74. Does any one can confirm this really is XX893? Also if I look at pictures just before it was scrapped, the colours look completely different. Also on port side underneath the old paint are the words SKY PIRATES (very big,but completely fainted). Hope you can help.

Greets from QRA Laarbruch.

Henk,

Myself and a few others have debated many times whether that particular cockpit section is actually XX893 for the very same reasons that you have mentioned.

The main man behind the current restoration of XW544 collects Buccaneer data plates and is quite an authority on these things so I will ask him to pass comment with regards to B3-1-74.

Was this data plate on the bulkhead by the hinge of the folding nose or the bulkhead that would have joined on to the bomb bay?

Cheers, Francis

Hi Francis,

It is the data plate that is on the wall behind the cockpit. I checked the
numbers on internet and that is telling me it should be XX892... Thanks for the help so far.

Hi Henk,

I own Bucc nose section XT284. When the front seat was out I remember removing some of the side panels from the instrument consoles. XT284 or 284 was hand written in black pen on the back of some panels.

It may be worth a look ?

Best of luck with your new project.

Dave (who works on XW554) rang me tonight to confirm that the data plate does indeed belong to XX892! It would be interesting to know if the data plate behind the folding nose confirms the same thing?

The question is, if XX893 is really is 892 then what cockpit is currently at Perth? 893 perhaps or is that two obvious? I guess Iíll go take a look at the data plate next time Iím in the area!
