I read some where about an incident at sea during the suez crisis, aboard HMS Eagle.
Apparently so the story goes a SeaHawk had a weapons malfunction and in the esuing blaze a number of wyverns were destroyed and subsequently ditched over the side about 70 miles off the Egyptian coast.

Has any one got any more details about this event?

Think you might be referring to this incident. An armourer of 893 sqdn fired 30 rounds of 20mm ammunition from a Venom in the lower hangar. Killing one person damaging other a/c and started a large fire.

aircraft involved in the Suez "Operation Musketer" from HMS Eagle where 897 and 899 Seahawks 4AEW 849A Skyraiders 830 Wyverns 892 and 893 Sea Venoms. 48 a/c in total .The Gannets of 812 Sqdn had been disembarked prior to the Suez operation. Think the accident happened around the Cyprus area Nov/Dec 56. I stand corrected!! wink Try to get a copy of the Commissioning book Hms Eagle 55/56. That will be your bible.
